abbey FAQ
Can I order an Abbey chair in other colours and/or wood types?
Currently, Abbey is only available in beech and four selected finishes: natural beech and stained beech in black, anthracite and ebony. Abbey is also available in all other beech finishes from our standard range on request. Special colours are also available if desired. Other types of wood are currently in development and will follow at a later date.
Will Abbey products also be available in glossy black outside of the limited edition?
On request, all Abbey products are also available in beech high-gloss black. To mark the launch of the product family, an exclusive, limited edition of 50 Abbey armchairs was produced in high-gloss black – personally hand-signed and numbered by Bernhard Aebi. This special edition is limited; subsequent orders in high-gloss black are possible on request (but will not be signed).
Please note: the high-gloss finish is ‘optically’ more sensitive than our standard silky lustre finish. As the surface is more reflective, signs of wear such as fingerprints, grease or minor scratches can be seen more quickly.
Are the seats in the Abbey product family also upholstered?
We plan to offer a version with an upholstered seat for the chair (with and without armrests) from spring 2026. If you require upholstered seating as part of a larger project, please contact us directly; we will gladly try to facilitate an upholstered seat ahead of this date.
Are the seats in the Abbey product family also available with a jonc weave?
We will also be offering the chair (with and without armrests) with a jonc weave from spring 2026. If you require this in advance as part of a larger project, please contact us directly; we will gladly try to facilitate the Abbey with a jonc weave seat ahead of this date.
Is the three-legged Abbey bar stool stable?
The Abbey bar stool is based on a three-legged construction that provides stability even on uneven ground. However, instead of a circumferential foot ring, a recessed triangle made of solid cast iron is installed to guarantee stability – this prevents any lateral leverage or tilting.
Is the Abbey bar stool’s base triangle also available in other colours?
The recessed triangle made of solid cast iron is only available in anthracite.
How long is the warranty on products in the Abbey range?
As with all Horgenglarus products, we offer a warranty of 5 years. You can extend this to 10 years if you register your product under the Horgenglarus generational passport.
How sustainable are the products in the Abbey range?
Like all Horgenglarus products, the chairs in the Abbey range meet the highest sustainability standards. We only use beech from Jura (Switzerland), a renewable local raw material, in the production of this range. When properly treated, Horgenglarus products have a lifespan of 80+ years – how long a tree needs to grow. The design does not follow short-lived trends; it is intended to stand the test of time. We also provide the opportunity to have Horgenglarus products professionally refurbished in our factory. Furthermore, if you no longer wish to have the products for any reason, you can request a buyback offer for the Abbey (as for all other listed Horgenglarus products). To do so, the products must be registered under the Horgenglarus generational passport.
