we take full responsibility

from start to finish
We create products that last – with passion and our own wealth of experience – in collaboration with selected partners. Since 1880, our entrepreneurial activities have been guided by our social, economic and environmental responsibility – and we have remained committed to this for generations, even going one step further with our Cycle 2 programme.

Cycle 1
we manufacture carefully without compromise
As early as the middle of the last century, the questionable nature of the ‘throw-away economy’ was debated in the architectural and design scene, and the economical use of raw materials was promoted. We create furniture that lasts generations and at least as long as trees need to grow – and we have been doing so since 1880.

development
For almost 150 years, we have championed the values of durability. Our open design culture, our in-house development team’s expertise and our high manufacturing standards attract leading Swiss architects and designers to Glarus.
local raw materials
The high-quality material used to make our furniture has always been wood from the Jura Mountains – a local, renewable raw material with short transport distances. We source almost all our materials from Switzerland.

renewable energy
A solar panel system and a heating system fed with waste timber supply our factory with renewable energy.

production
Cutting, bending, sanding, joining, finishing: from the very beginning, we ensure that the high-quality materials are processed appropriately and that our tables and chairs are expertly finished and executed to the highest standards. We achieve this through the symbiosis of specialised, experienced craftsmanship and state-of-the-art CNC-controlled precision technology.

warranty
The five-year warranty with which all our products leave production can be extended to ten years by registering the newly purchased furniture. This option applies to all chairs and tables manufactured from 2025 onwards.

repairs
Minor or major damage to a piece of furniture can be repaired at any time in our manufactory, entirely in agreement with and according to the owner’s wishes.

buyback and refurbishing

Horgenglarus is going circular by launching the Cycle 2 programme – a generational passport and a buy-back offer for used furniture. This extends the service life of our chairs and tables and preserves their value for future generations. It takes around 80 to 100 years for a tree to grow to full size, so we believe our wood products should remain in circulation for the same amount of time.

cycle 2
we are rethinking the circular economy
With our Cycle 2 initiative, we are establishing a generational market for our tables and chairs. As part of this, we will be refurbishing our original products through authorised specialist retailers not just once, but for several use cycles – another important step towards a circular economy.

buyback
If an owner is no longer using a piece of Horgenglarus furniture, a buy-back offer can be requested. A generational passport must have been previously registered for the product.

refurbishing
If the buy-back offer and appraisal are accepted, the piece of furniture is returned to its place of manufacture in Glarus, where we expertly refurbish it and return it back into circulation.

warranty
A new warranty of five years on the refurbished piece provides an extra guarantee.
