Abbey 1-920a

Bernhard Aebi, 2025

With Abbey, architect Bernhard Aebi, in collaboration with Horgenglarus, has created a chair characterised by a clear design, delicate lightness and sculptural presence. Drawing inspiration from Viennese chair classics – but completely rethought and consistently reduced to the essentials – the chair reveals its timeless beauty in a natural and unassuming manner. This is particularly evident in the details: the combination of round and square cross-sections, asymmetrical angles and precisely crafted transitions creates surprising silhouettes.
The three-part chair series, boasting exceptional comfort, includes a chair, an armchair and a three-legged stool.

With a width of only 38 mm, the seat frame of all models is reduced to the structural limit – slender, lightweight, yet stable, without any reinforcement elements. The backrests consist of two components with different angles of inclination – for sitting upright or leaning back in a relaxed position. Their heights have been reduced to 76 cm, and in the case of the armchair to 73 cm, so that when turning to talk to the person next to you at the table, you barely need to lift your arm. The armrests are also shaped so that your arms can rest comfortably on the armrests and table when sitting at the table.
The three-legged bar stool remains stable even on uneven floors. The recessed, triangular footrest made of cast iron prevents any lateral forces and prevents the tool from tipping over.
